Things I have really been wanting, but . . .

Okay, so there are two things at the back of my mind that I really want to do. Neither is impossible or expensive, but I feel like I have hit a road block and I will probably end up doing neither.

The first involves a very large unfinished mirror that we have. When we renovated our house we kept the mirror so we could use it as a stand up mirror in our bathroom. At the moment it is serving its function, but it is quite an eye sore to me. My goal is to frame it. Easy enough. But the look I am going for is the hard part. I am having a hard time gathering all the right materials. See below for the looks I am trying to achieve.

Anybody have any ideas for me, other than stopping at a random barn- only possible in Texas- or hiking to find some driftwood? Home Depot and Lowe's do not carry any type of raw, reclaimed style wood, hence my road block. I really want to hold off on doing anything to the mirror until I know this is not even a possibility, and even at that point I will probably settle for finding a framed mirror somewhere instead. Oh yeah, but did I mention, the 2 mirrors I showed above were $5,000 and $1,900 respectively. Yep.

My second "To Do" has a lot less chance of ever getting done since I am the only person that will probably ever see it or relish in it. My closet. There are three main problems with my closet. One, I have my own. How could that possibly be a problem? In our old house we shared a closet and I hate to admit it, but I was quite the bully. If it was too tall, Chris used it. If I ran out of room, it was easy to overflow into Chris's. Now, there is un-utilized space at the top of my closet, where I cannot reach and the rest is filled to the brim. I am certain with some organization, shelving, boxes, etc, it could change dramatically. And that is the second problem. Because it is so crammed, there really is no method to the madness. Where something fits is where it has to go. The last problem is the room space itself. Tile floor, yellowed paint, and a door that can easily be closed when things inside get a little out of hand. Did I mention my closet is my weakness? My closet intimidates me. So weird, I know. I am in desperate need of a closet make-over. Ha! That sounds pathetic. I am hesitant to tell Chris because my fear is that his solution- men always have solutions to our complaints- will be to get rid of some shoes and clothes. I will move them to a closet upstairs before I do that, which isn't all that bad of an idea, just seems like a long way to go to get dressed. Anybody have some suggestions or at least some motivation for me? If only I could get to this...

  1. You could weather the wood yourself. There are lots of options...baking soda &
water or you could do a mix of india ink and rubbing alcohol for color. Plus,
weathering wood always works better in hot climates!
Closets annoy me too. I switch out my clothes based on season. I move out all
my winter stuff and move in summer stuff etc... Annoying process but it works
for space saving. Sounds like fun.....and makes me want to re-do something in
    house. Poor Michael. ;)
