We had a blast. 5 days was just the right amount of time away without getting sick of the food, too badly sun burned, or claustrophobic in our little hotel room. All in all we loved Puerto Vallarta and have quite a few stories to remember the locals by.
A pretty quiet vacation except for our encounter with the local salesmen on the beach every day. Chris and I found out that most of the locals are lucky to make about 65 pesos a day, which converts to less than $5 a day in US dollars. Unbelievable! After buying a handmade black wrap to serve as a cover-up, I felt like I had done my part for the week in supporting the locals. Our last day in Puerto Vallarta was my favorite. We took a boat ride across to the bay to a remote mountain side village. From there we road mules up the mountain and zip lined and repelled back down to the base camp. The day was amazing. Unfortunately we could not carry a camera with us, and even though there was a photographer on site, he was asking $15 per picture and did not actually print pictures for you, but rather gave you a CD with the pictures on it to take home with you. We probably should have bought at least one to look back on, but at the time it just seemed a little ridiculous to pay that much for a file on a CD. Other than that, we really have no regrets about the trip. The city was a lot safer than we expected, but it also did not surprise us to see people begging, shaving, or selling tacos on the street. I would highly recommend the west coast of Mexico over the east coast, the mountains are breathtaking.
