31 Week Update

How far along? 31 weeks- 9 left to full term.

Baby's size? Clocking in at about 17 inches long and 4 lbs.

Weight Gain? 20 lbs.

Sleep? Waking up a lot more often to pee these days, feels like the first trimester all over again. Not sure if this means the baby has dropped yet or not, but I sure hope so. Otherwise, I am going to be in for a rude awakening (get it? ok sorry- stupid pun) once he does drop.

Foods I am loving? Not as hungry these days, but obviously I am still eating plenty since I keep gaining weight. : )

Foods I am hating? Since all food creates heartburn these days, I am hating all food. Blah.

Movement? Found out this week that I have an anterior placenta. For those of you that just said- huh? that just means it is attached to the wall of my uterus that also touches my tummy. That explains why I don't feel my baby move nearly as often as some other people do. I have a little bit of a cushion between baby and mommy. Good to know, but really doesn't mean anything beyond that.

Symptoms? In case you were getting bored hearing about the same 'ole predictable pregnancy symptoms I have been having, here are a few new ones for you. I started having Braxton Hicks contractions a couple of weeks ago, pretty mild in the grand scheme of things, but not fun either. Best way I can describe them are menstrual cramps, with a sudden sweat outbreak, and a little hard time breathing. I also have the infamous pregnancy hot flashes. Also very strange and totally random. Then there are the burning sensations that I get sporadically on my belly. Yes, it actually feels like my skin is on fire. In fact, the first few times it happened, I checked under my shirt to make sure there was not something there either stinging or burning me. My doctor says this is how your skin feels when the uterus beneath it is stretching. Fancy way of saying you are probably going to have some stretch marks there. And those vicious skin breakouts that I had during the first trimester are back and unrelenting. My poor face. I really hope this goes away when Mason arrives.

What I miss? Clear skin, sleep, a constant body temperature, and a heartburn free day.

What I will miss? Life with Chris- just the two of us. I hope he knows how much I love him and that even though we will both be overwhelmed with love and affection for our son, nothing will make me love him less. I will miss picking up at the drop of a hat to do anything and everything we want to do together, though.

What I'm looking forward to? Babymoon with my amazing husband this weekend! I can't wait to get away and spend some time together. No distractions, no baby nesting, no house chores. Just us. I'm not sure he needs or wants this time nearly as much as I do, because I really need it!! But he sounds excited too.

Best Moments this week: Last weekend we got to see Mason on a 4D ultrasound (which is 3D and realtime).  Even though he was a sleepy baby that day, we did get about a dozen good pictures of him and got to bring home a DVD and CD of the experience. Technology is unbeliavable. A few things that we learned while watching our little man while in utero:
  • He loves to suck on his own arm and hand.
  • At the moment he has only a few strands of hair on his head, but he still has plenty of time to develop enough hair to cover his entire little head.
  • He is head down and feet up, which explains the kicks to my ribs and the bulge in my left side from his little hiney.
  • He was shy once again- hiding from us by buring his face in the placenta- I admit asking the tech why he would do that, seemed gross to me. She said it is nice and warm- baby's love it. Hmmm.
  • He is measuring a little ahead of his due date- the ultrasound tech dated him around April 5th-9th, which is kind of exciting to hear since our OBGyn dated us two weeks later than most calenders.
  • His little heart looked perfect and the umbilical cord had all 3 vessels, which is a great sign.
I can't believe we have to wait 9 more weeks to meet him, but at least we have some pictures to hold us off til then.

Weekly Wisdom: No matter how hard you try (while pregnant) if something falls onto the floor on the passenger side of your car- you will not be able to get to it unless you get out of your car, walk around and open the passenger door. And hot flashes = swelling in my fingers. So when I feel one coming on I immediately take my rings off my fingers. Once the hot flash goes away (normally lasts for about an hour or so), I am married again. So hot flashes = single life, interesting wisdom, eh?

The bump: Sorry- it was cold this week, hence the big pj's.

Next appointment: In 2 weeks, on Monday, February 21st.
